Diocesan Cycle of Prayer 2009
About This Cycle of Prayer
Dioceses are arranged in order by the Bishop's Conference; we pray for them in turn, with the rest of the Australian Church. All due care has been taken to ensure accuracy of information and a broad coverage of diocesan matters for prayer. If you are aware of inaccuracies or of other people or situations which might reasonably be included in the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, contact the Bishop's Office.
For Regular prayer
- The Bishops, Diocesan Staff and Bishop-in-Council
- Clergy and lay people in positions of responsibility
- Parish Councils and ministry teams
- People at all stages of discernment and preparation for lay or ordained ministry
- The work of St Mark’s National Theological Centre
- The development of fresh expressions of ministry throughout the Diocese
- Continuing exploration of new models of ministry in the Diocese
- Growth of the Pelican Foundation and the Anglican Development Fund
- Ecumenical cooperation, especially the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture
- Grace and strength for all who hold public office, and a spirit of service, commitment to justice, and an honouring of truth in public office
- The work of the Anglican Church across the world; particularly in areas of great unrest.
For Regular prayer in 2009
- For the well-being of people in the face of global recession; particularly praying for those at the bottom of the economy: the homeless, those without work; those with mental and physical disability.
- For Australia as urban and rural communities together confront the realities of climate change, and particularly the higher temperatures which threaten land and sea. Pray too that the Diocese might be a strong advocate for environmental responsibility.
- For Bishop Stuart Robinson and his family as they settle into their new home; and as Bishop Stuart begins his ministry as the 10th Bishop of the Diocese.
- For the senior leaders of the Diocese; our Assistant Bishops, Allan and Trevor; our Archdeacons, Sarah, Anne, Genieve, Mark, John and Ian; our Dean, Phillip; our Registrar, Tracey; members of Bishop-in-Council and the Property Trust, as the transition is made to the leadership of Bishop Stuart.
- For the rural and urban communities of the Diocese, for the clergy and lay leadership, that they might be catalysts for hope and sources of comfort and strength.
- For our developing relationship with our Companion Diocese - the Diocese of Ysabel in the Solomon Islands and for mutual visits during 2009.
- For the building of closer ties between the operational arms of the Diocese: particularly Anglicare, schools, St Mark's National Theological Centre, the Registry, and the Anglican Development Fund.
- For the world-wide Anglican Communion at a time of division and challenge that areas of co-operation and mutual respect and unity will be found.
