Resources

An important function of the Commission for the Environment is the generation and

assembly of material to assist parishes and agencies of the Diocese, the Church congregations

and the wider community to value and care for our environment. To further this aim the following

materials are available on line and other resources may be found on linked websites.

Green Guide

A Handbook on environmental matters has been published by the Commission for the

Environment entitled: Building a Better relationship with Our World: A green guide for people in parishes.

This handbook is based on a similar booklet produced by the Diocese of Grafton.

Liturgies

Liturgies have been produced for Eucharistic services and other services of worship,

action and song primarily focussed on Creation Sunday but applicable for other occasions

when the nature and work of God as Creator, or the environment, are celebrated.

Further materials in the form of liturgies, Bible studies, earth care,

children’s talks and sermons may be found on line at http://www.seasonofcreation.com.

Green Buildings

Parishes proposing new church buildings or major renovations need to consider seriously,

in the planning stage, the recommendations of the Building Policy

and the matters raised in the following reports:

·          Green Buildings

·          Rating Applications

Environmental Audit

To assist parishes in assessing their performance against a range of environmental issues

a questionnaire has been prepared and distributed in 2005. It is planned that a

similar questionnaire is circulated for parish response at regular intervals.

Educational Materials

The Commission intends to develop or distribute materials suitable for study groups on

environmental issues in parishes.

Environmental Literature

Books dealing with environmental issues regularly appear in the bookshops and

some of these may be available from St Marks National Theological Library in Barton.
