Activities
The Commission for the Environment is engaged in the following activities:
· Developing suitable liturgies for use in churches on days when an environmental focus is required –
such as Creation Sunday. The liturgies are designed for Eucharistic services or Morning
and Evening Prayer.
· Public advocacy of environmental issues of concern to the Diocese. Usually the Commission will prepare material for release by the Bishop.
· Education on environmental issues for use in the parishes and schools and for wider circulation in
the Australian Church. An example is the Green Guide.
· Conducting regular environmental audits of parishes and Diocesan agencies.
· Energy and water planning for new buildings in the Diocese and the practicality of retro-fitting
where appropriate.
· Regional gatherings to meet and inform congregations in various locations around the Diocese. Presentations to schools and the Diocesan youth movement – Convo.
· Monitoring ecological systems on Diocesan properties, including an ecological audit of grasslands, bush and graveyards attached to parish and Diocesan properties.
· Environmental policy development including a general overview and individual policies for buildings, ecology, energy, vehicles and water.
