Have we been foolish or are we simply fools for Christ?
Nope, we are simply fools for Christ and we would love it if you would join with us in being foolish for Him. To the world our decisions and actions don't always make sense, but we remain obedient to the call and we walk by faith.
This is the issue that Basement Ministries has been laying before God for weeks as our financial situation becomes quite dire. However as we prayed, revised our call to mission, and reflected on the way God has led us and provided for us before, we became more than confident that our call to mission is of God and we must remain faithful to it, despite our financial situation.
Basement Ministries has been operating for three years and through that time our community has grown and changed. We have sent away missionaries, we have established a fruitful ministry in our local housing commission flats and this year we opened a cafe. Through both of these ministry areas, and our worship gathering of a Sunday night, we have experienced some awesome moves of God.
The IceBurg Story
Since the early days when the idea of owning a cafe was a dream, the Basement community continuously sought God in prayer as to how, or whether, to proceed with this concept. We felt the promptings to submit a tender for IceBurg Cafe at Burgmann Anglican School in Gungahlin, and stepped out in faith believing that the finance for the setup costs (approx $20,000) for the Cafe would somehow be there. Our tender was successful and so we progressed slightly nervously, but believing that this was God's thing and not our own. Over the space of three months the cafe was set up, all crockery, a coffee machine, a sandwich press, a blender, chopping boards,a cash register and fridges, all the trappings needed for our opening day were provided. Praise God! Who would have thought that a small church who contributed all of $1000 would now be operating a Cafe... God would!
Basement Ministries is Fresh Expression of church and has a strong focus on mission in the community, therefore our finances are viewed more like that of a Missionary organisation than that of a traditional church. We would like to ask that you and maybe your church consider supporting the mission of Basement Ministries. This may be a one off donation to help us in our current situation or a regular offering to assist in sustaining and expanding Basement's Mission. See account details below.
During this season of tight finances Basement still has great reason to Praise as we have a God who loves us and knows all. It is only by Him that we continue on with joyful hearts."Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights". Habakkuk 3:17-19
